About 30 NCCC stakeholders heard from Weld County Commissioner Kirkmeyer, about CNG plans in that county, at the January 28, 2010 meeting in Greeley. Also presentations from Colorado Corn and Blue Sun were shared, and lots of other news too. Members like Joe Castro helped support the mission by arriving in style. See feature story below. Not only did he do his part by driving a Prius to the meeting: City of Boulder Fleet Manager, Joe Castro, is also working on petroleum reduction at home, in Boulder. Castro has helped the city meet it’s goal of 90% of all vehicles purchased running on alternative fuels. In 2009 they purchased 27 vehicles that are hybrid, E85/Flex-Fuel, or biodiesel capable. In 2010 they are set to make this 100%. Please go to the NCCC annual reporting survey site to share your stories with us. Also get individual help customizing a petroleum reduction plan with NCCC’s Clean Fleet program for members in 2010.

Past Events

On September 24, 2009, Northern Colorado Clean Cities helped with the Clean Air Conference and organized a day of Clean Cities presentations and meetings at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Click on link above for list and links to power points.

Summer meeting held June 24, stakeholders visited new member:

New company in Loveland helps cars “go fast, go far, and go green. No compromise” – as their slogan tells us. Lightning Hybrids has only been in business about nine months now, but they are already making heads turn. The hydraulic hybrid system has local fleet managers like City of Greeley’s Tom Russell saying, “This is exciting technology, and I want to learn more.” He and others in the area are learning about this new system that doesn’t have to be purchased from the original equipment manufacturers, it could really make a big difference in petroleum use!

The 2008 Colorado AFV Day Odyssey event, held October 10, in Boulder Colorado, included an all-american hummer that can run on CNG, E85, Hydrogen or unleaded. Over 90 Coloradoans attended for the whole experience. Attendees wandered through a maze of vehicles and booths set up outside the library. A Denver City hybrid garbage truck, Hybrids-Plus and Burt Toyota plug-in hybrids, US GSA flex fuels, a Intergalactic Hydrogen natural gas/FFV vehicle and more were all on display. Several of these were taken out for test rides. The response was positive and the crowd was enthusiastic about the hydrogen car model kit donated by Intergalactic Hydrogen. The kit was given to an attendee as a door prize for answering our ethanol life cycle question. Attendees heard a “Life Cycle of Biofuels” presentation and learned about natural gas use in vehicles from a panel of experts. Watch for a repeat of this event in October of 2010.

THE TIME IS NOW

The Time to do something different is NOW! Natural gas vehicles, hybrids, electric, plug in electric, flex fuels and other choices are out there, sometimes for no cost difference to you. The fuels are available too. Ethanol, as E85, and Biodiesel in blends of 10% to 20%, are now at stations all over Colorado.
